David Copperfield's mother died. Cosenquently, he became an orphan.
Mr. Murdstone was a cruel man. He beat David eventhough he was his stephson.
Many schools in England were poor at the time. The children were treated badly, moreover they were given little food. Charles Dickens wrote about this in his novels, consenquently many schools were closed.
