The Civil War in the USA lasted from 1861-1865. The northen states wanted to abolish slavery. The southern states didn't agree on this, furtermore, they wanted to go out of the union. As a result, a war broke out.
President Lincoln abolished slavery in 1863, yet the black people were discriminated against for another 100 years. The Civil Rights Movement managed to put an end to legal segregation.
Moreover, racism was reduced and Ku Klux Klan was dissolved.
